Windows 10 update KB4535996 can freeze your computer

What’s wrong with this Windows 10 update?

Windows automatic updating is a handy feature – or it would be if it worked smoothly. However, as we have witnessed, there have been a number of problematic updates recently. Many of us Windows users keep our systems up to date with an automatic update feature that alerts us when a new update file is available for download.

The latest update that is causing the issue is the new Windows update KB4535996. It was promised to fix various problems with Windows search and printing. However, numerous users have reported issues being caused due to the update. Either the installation of the update will be stuck or the whole machine will freeze after installing the update.

It is good to know that this update is not installed automatically, but can be manually installed via Windows Update. So if there are no persistent printing or search problems, you may want to leave the update uninstalled and wait for the final, patched version. However, if you’ve already installed the update and have issues, we’ve listed a fix below as guided by TechRadar.
